We’ve run six cohorts of service-learning with Lingnan University. Students farm, work alongside farmers, talk to local shops — and finally tell what they learned through a single local dish.

How a term works

  1. 01Three farm daysStudents split into groups and spend full days at partner farms.
  2. 02Weekly careSmall groups of three take turns going back to look after the crops.
  3. 03Interview farmersAbout seasons, ingredients and eating what’s in season.
  4. 04Cook for the farmersAt term’s end, students design a vegetarian dish and invite the farmers to eat.

Partner farms have included The Pioneer Farm, Farm SOILution and 新鳳農場. Students also interview shops in Tseng Choi Street and San Hui, gathering first-hand data for our pre-consumer food waste map.
